A statement from Kirby Road Surgery

All members of staff at Kirby Road Surgery, just like the wider NHS, have been working extremely hard throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure that our patients continue to receive only the highest standard of care and attention. The health and well- being of our patients has, and always will be, our top priority; all implemented changes have been done so with this in mind and at the direction of the government.

Unfortunately, unkind, unjust, and offensive comments about the practice and its staff members, both past and present, have been repeatedly posted on several communal Dunstable Facebook pages. This is a situation that we have all been aware of and have been monitoring for quite some time.

Words such as these have immense power as well as a detrimental impact on our wonderful team, who have worked tirelessly since the outbreak of the pandemic.

We will always encourage comments of complaint or concern through our official channels (which can be found on our website), as Kirby Road Surgery constantly strive to better our services even further.

Everyone has the right to freedom of speech, but we do not tolerate abuse on social media directed towards the practice and/ or its staff members.

Comments from our patients on social media have, and will continue to be, officially recorded. If necessary, action will be taken without hesitation in line with guidance from the British Medical Association (BMA). If you would like to read this guidance, please visit:  https://www.bma.org.uk/advice-and-support/gp-practices/complaints-in-primary-care/dealing-with-abuse-of-practice-staff-on-social-media-from-patients

We would like to thank the many individuals who have posted only words of kindness on the aforementioned pages. These comments are deeply valued by all of our team, especially in such difficult times.

If you have any suggestions or issues that you wish to draw attention to, please email the practice, at: admin.kirbyroad@nhs.net

All emails will be responded to.

Thank you.
