As a Guide
You should attend A & E for the following
  • Acute shortness of breath/severe breathing difficulties
  • Major injuries such as those received in a car accident
  • Severe nose bleeds that will not stop even after 15mins of pressure
  • Falls from a considerable height
  • Severe bleeding
  • Major head injuries
  • Collapse
  • Severe Chest Pains (especially where feeling ill)
  • Severe haemorrhage
  • Obvious fracture
  • Poisoning
  • Extensive burns
Not appropriate for A & E
That should be seen at the Surgery
  • Flu – like illness, coughs, earache, back pain
  • Minor breathlessness or wheezing
  • Sprains and strains
  • Urinary difficulties
  • Abdominal pain
  • Vaginal bleeding
  • Diarrhoea and vomiting
  • Rashes/sunburn
  • Insect bites and stings
  • Minor cuts and grazes
  • Contraception
